Feb 25, 2013 Good Week

Well I don´t have too much to say for this week.

We are working hard. My new companion is a convert from Washington State. He is very relaxed and super organized. We get along very well.

Instead of Stake Conference, we had a conference for all of Argentina yesterday. Elder Nelson, Elder Clayton, Elder Bowen, and one of the Primary Counselors spoke. I love the way Elder Bowen teaches. One of the things that I learned was the importance of asking the right questions in receiving revelation. The Lord rarely gives us revelation we haven't sought for. I am going to go to Conference with lots of questions and help my investigators prepare some as well. Elder Clayton mentioned the city I am in (Tartagal) in his talk. Everyone was super excited about that.

We are excited for General Conference. I want to have 20 investigators there. That means we have to start getting people ready for it now. We are going to be visiting a lot of our recent converts. I want to visit all of the ones in the last two years over the next two weeks to invite them to Conference.

Well I love you all! The Gospel is true and I love you!

Mar 18, 2013 Our Responsibilities as Missionaries

I am training!

I love my mission president. He helps me understand my purpose as a missionary so much. He talked this Saturday about our responsibilities as missionaries. One scripture that he shared was Helaman 3:35

35 Nevertheless they did fast and pray oft, and did wax stronger and stronger in their humility, and firmer and firmer in the faith of Christ, unto the filling their souls with joy and consolation, yea, even to the purifying and the sanctification of their hearts, which sanctification cometh because of their yielding their hearts unto God.

I think that is basically what the mission is about. It is about discovering how much you can dedicate yourself to God. This Sunday morning we went to look for investigators, when the ones we were looking for fell through, we passed by a former investigator. He was sleeping, but we insisted that we at least talk to him. He woke up and went to church with us! Yeah! We get blessings as we try and give more and more.

Another thing that I learned was the importance of obedience. I love Matt 16:26

26 For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

We need to be perfectly obedient. It really isn’t worth it NOT to be. The Lord has provided a way for us to repent, but every time we sin, we lose blessings that we could have had. Wickedness was never happiness.

This Sunday is a special conference for all of Argentina.  We are going to try and have a bunch of investigators there.

Have a wonderful week!

Mar 4, 2013 Believe in God

Believe in God

For some reason these last few weeks I have been talking to a lot of youth who have a hard time believing that God exists. One teenage girl told me that because she cannot see she cannot believe. When I asked another teenager what he believed, he paused for a moment and then responded that he didn´t believe in anything.

There are many who see in faith only empty rituals, and God as an excuse to believe in anything. They say they will not believe unless God forces them or shows them a great sign.

I find my faith in God in the little miracles I see every day. In the strength that I find when I felt like I had nothing more to give. My faith grows as I talk with God in honest prayer and then truly listen to His words.

To the teenager who told me that he didn´t believe in anything I responded with something like this,

´´Do you believe in the United States?´´

He said, ´´Yes´´

“But have you ever seen the United States?” I asked

He said ´´No,´´ but that he had seen it on the television.´´

I then told him that he could know that he could know if God exists if he would turn on God´s television, the scriptures. I then asked him if he had ever read them.

He said they didn´t interest him.

Then I asked him if he had ever prayed to God.

He said no,

I told him that he wasn´t using the cell phone that God had given him.

A miracle happened to me this week. Remember that sombrero that I use? The amazingly, attractive one? We were walking down a street in the middle of the day and I felt like I shouldn´t walk down that street. I went anyways and just decided to walk faster. Some teenagers started to shout out ´´├Łankee! Yankee!´´ One came up behind asking for money. I kept my eyes forward and walked a little faster, but the teenager behind me grabbed my hat and ran away. I really wasn´t in any danger, but I felt a little sad to lose my attractive hat as he ran away.

The next day I was hurrying to a lesson when a lady called to us and asked us if we had a minute. We said yes and walked over to the lady. She explained that she and her son had seen what happened the other day and that she had sent her son to get the hat from the teenager. Her son had been looking for us yesterday on his motorcycle, but couldn´t find us. She then gave me back the hat I never thought I would see again.

I know that we can come to know Christ personally as we read His words. God hears our prayers. The Truth will prevail.

The Gospel is True and I love you!
