Oct 28, 2013 This Halloween I am going to dress up like a missionary!

Vinagre Apples, Church Tours, and Interviews

I have a great recipe that you should never try.  Take green apples. and slice it super thin.  Then add salt and red wine vinagre.  And presto!  A recipe from my Chileno companion that makes me want to never eat apples ever again!  Yeah!!!

This week was great!  We have been talking a bunch about increasing church attendance.  A lot of missionaries caught the vision and had several more investigators at church.  We had 8, but 4 escaped before sacrament meeting.  So . . . we went afterwards to chat with them, but 8 investigators came to the classes!

A returned missionary from Mendosa is helping us a lot.  In her mission they did a bunch of tours of the church.  So she invited another sister in the ward and they did church tours Saturday morning.  It was fantastic.  4 investigators came to church because of the activity.  Then the Bishop got very excited, so he had us and the sisters talk about it in church.

One of the cool things about being in Salta is that we get to interact more with President here.  Today my companion and I had interviews with him.  One of the things that he said was that we are not here to manipulate people, we are here to invite them with power.

I am learning. The Book of Mormon is super powerful

I love you all!  Happy Halloween!

Here is a picture of last week’s baptism.

Last week’s crazy rain shower.  We took of our shoes to cross the street.

And we played soccer this morning.  I did not play in church clothes, but this is us leaving afterwards

Oct 21, 2013 Happy Mother’s Day in Argentina! (And everywhere else Happy 21st of October)

This week we had interviews with President Levrino.  It went by super quick.  The main theme was being obedient because we love God, and correcting with love.  It was very quick. I got my temple recommend renewed.  I am ready to go to the temple again.  (It´s been a while . . . )  After that I went on divisions with Elder Jones.

Elder Jones is a fantastic missionary.  He is a workaholic who is super focused and determined.  I loved working with him.  I mentioned that after the mission I wanted to read a talk by Joseph Smith.  He just happened to have it on hand, and so I read it in 20 minutes.  I learned a lot about Joseph Smith´s character in the talk.  Something that I think would be impossible to recreate on film.  Leaving there was a deep doctrine talk that I saw in his apartment.  He told me I could take it, and I was super tempted, but I ended up saying no.  Plenty of time for that after the mission.

I had a weird dream about talking with an old man about coming back to the church.  I remember it because I was talking with him in English. (I am used to teaching in Spanish in my dreams).  I asked him if his home teachers visited him every month.  He said that they did, but that they didn´t do it because they cared about him, they only did it to complete their duty. I woke up and thought a lot about the dream.  I don´t usually remember my dreams.  I feel that is something I could work on.  It’s great that I am working so hard to help people get to the celestial kingdom, but I guess a lot of times I am doing it because it’s the right thing to do, and not so much because I want them to have their salvation.  Well . . . I guess I can add that to the list of things I am working on haha.

I think I drive a lot of my companions crazy when I change lessons last minute.  When I see a need, I like to go straight to it with the scriptures.  I found this scripture to share with a family.

D&C 78
 17 Verily, verily, I say unto you, ye are little children, and ye have not as yet understood how great blessings the Father hath in his own hands and prepared for you;

18 And ye cannot bear all things now; nevertheless, be of good cheer, for I will lead you along. The kingdom is yours and the blessings thereof are yours, and the riches of eternity are yours.--

We need to be grateful for everything.  Especially for our trials.  Without them we could never receive our exaltation. It was a great week.  We ended it with a baptism.  I will send pictures next week!

Oct 14, 2013 Life in the City of Miracles

My area is really called City of Miracles.  It´s living up to its name thus far.  I am super excited to be working with Elder Oyarzun.  (There is a picture of him below)  It makes me think about Elder Keele, because I am now living with 3 chilenos.  (Como estai po loco?  Aqui esta to´´o terrible bakan.)

Well we are starting to get some rain.  I am not complaining, we are heading into summer and I like the cool weather.

I am contacting a lot more people.  Today on the bus I talked with a bunch of people.  It is funny to see reactions that people have.  Some people are desperate not to talk with us.  But most are willing to listen.  Tuesday I contacted someone who practically started to cry telling us about how her daughter died.  It is hailing pretty large pebbles outside.  It is really cool to see, but I don´t think it will last more than 10 minutes.

I gave my first Zone training meeting with Elder Oyarzun.  It is amazing how the spirit guided us to say certain things.

I love you!

Talk with you next week!

Oct 7, 2013 Transfers

I am back in Salta!  In the Cuidad del Milagros!  My comp is Elder Oyarzun.  He is from Chile.  I live with 3 Chilenos, so I am going to come back talking like Elder Keele.

I am happy about the work I was able to do in Universitario.  I learned a lot.  I am excited to be back in Salta.  It is a very different atmosphere.  You never know how many people you have helped for the better until you start saying goodbye.  I feel happy with the work I have done in Universitario.  President Levrino says that my biggest challenge now will be staying focused.  I am going to stay focused.

General Conference was amazing.  There is always so much for all of my investigators.  It kills me when I think about all the revelation some of my investigators lost by not going to conference.  We must not take for granted our priesthood leaders.

I don´t have lots of time, but I hope everyone has a wonderful week!
